FGD Mixers Typical scrubbing / absorber reaction tanks require the use of several side entry mixers. However, the side entry mixers being supplied by the old line traditional mixer companies is nothing more than a vertical agitator turned on its side. Due to this, their agitators are not suited for the high loads placed on the shaft which results in excess wear rates of the seals and short gear life. LOTUS Mixers is one of only two mixer manufacturers performing research and improving upon the traditional side entry mixer designs for use in FGD. Recently, LOTUS Mixers believes it has taken a giant leap ahead of our competition with our new CFJ series side entry mixers. Based on 5+ years of field studies, we have applied for several new patents for the 318B seal design, shut-off mechanism and overall mixer configuration. Over the last two years, we have developed a FGD specific 318B seal (this seal has been in service since 1/2005). This seal design utilizes hardened SiC to SiC stationary and rotating seal faces. We have coupled this with a newly designed seal flush. We have found that these changes have resulted in significantly longer seal life and a dramatic reduction in maintenance. The other major breakthrough is our development of the KCX impeller series. These impellers were developed based on tested hydrofoil technology and improved upon for pumping in the horizontal (we did not just take our vertical impeller and mount it horizontally). The flow pattern generated by the KCX impellers is ideal for gas dispersion and enhances the SO2 absorption. |
